In 1973, a film hit theatres that was so shocking, theater workers reported audience members simply standing in the lobby, shaking. Many clustered in small groups, smoking. (It was legal back then!) Others crying, or having to be led to their cars. It was fifty years ago, and still, The Exorcist ranks among horror’s Top 10 Scariest of All Time, having lost none of it’s release year impact.
Recently, David Gordon Green, who resurrected the HALLOWEEN franchise, secured a deal to try the same with an Exorcist trilogy, where all the previous sequels will be disregarded. The new film will act as a direct sequel to the 1973 original. As fans have been wondering, seeing as Jamie Lee Curtis reprised her role as Laurie Strode in the (supposed) conclusion to the HALLOWEEN franchise, would Linda Blair, who portrayed Regan MacNeil, make an appearance? A cameo, possibly? Even…reprising her role? Or, would she be ignored, as some continuing franchises have done with established characters?
Fear not, fright fans. Blumhouse insiders have confirmed that Blair will appear in the upcoming film, principal photography has already been completed, and while not all the details have been made public, several trades have reported that Blair will be playing Regan, who’s been sought out by a present-day father with a child believed to be possessed by the devil.
The as-yet untitled film is set to be released theatrically October 13th, and you can bet the Argo Theater here in town will be screening it… just like it did in 1973 when the original came out.
