Blind Creator To Appear in Minnesota for 1st Time Since 1991
With a slew of new titles slated for release this Fall, longtime comics writer and filmmaker Joseph M. Monks has been added to the guest list of Crypticon, taking place at the Crowne Plaza West Hotel & Conference Center, September 15-17.
“I’m just glad it’s in September,” Monks told the Gazette. “Last time I was there, Dances With Wolves was in theaters, there was a blizzard, and tires were breaking into pieces because they’d frozen to the street. I said that weekend I wouldn’t come back, but ehh, Hot Comics sponsoring our appearance makes it worth the risk.”
By ‘our’, Monks is referring to fellow author and poet Alex Ness (Cthulhu: Catastrophic Discoveries, JOSH HOWARD PRESENTS: SASQUATCH), who will be appearing with Monks all three days. For the convention, Monks and Ness are releasing a limited edition horror chapbook with two tales set in Minnesota, available exclusively through Hot Comics. In addition, Monks promises some pre-release surprises and limited-run splatterpunk titles that won’t be available until October…unless you come by the table.
“Make your plans now,” says Monks. “And, take note: all signatures are free. You got copies of work I did with Bernie Wrightson, copies of Zacherley’s Midnight Terrors or Cry For Dawn? Bust ‘em out. I may not get back this way for a while, so take advantage of the disabled and keep the blind guy busy!”
