Joseph Monks, who’s been making waves in the publishing world for years, has a new title
coming out—this one on his birthday. The independent horror platform Godless , which released two of
the cult author’s ebooks in 2022, will help the Far Hollow resident celebrate another trip around the
sun—and likely inspiring hand-wringing from more traditional readers.
Monks, who began his professional writing career at the age of 16, has made more than a few
critics and outlets cringe thanks to the style of fiction he’s known for, a niche referred to as:
splatterpunk. With the movement making a strong comeback in recent years, Monks is happy to be
returning to his horror roots.
“Whether you use the term extreme horror, splatterpunk, whatever’s trendy at the moment,”
Monks told the Gazette. “It all boils down to, this is not your grandpa’s horror…unless Gramps is really
cool. This is like when punk rock broke. When goth was a scene, and the mainstream high school kids
avoided those classmates. It’s horror on bath salts, and that’s a fun sandbox to play in.”
Monks’ story, Road-EO, will be available exclusively through Godless for .99c for a limited time.
The author expects the print edition, and signed copies, to be available that week as well.
