2 Men Believed To Be Suspects In Additional Crimes
Sheriff Walt Emming says that two men removed from a hunting cabin at the North end of Old Mill Road may be tied to other crimes in the area. Comparisons of fingerprints and other evidence was still being processed at press time.
“What we know so far is that these two individuals were not only trespassing, but they had in their possession other items reported stolen in recent weeks. We’re going through all of the belongings confiscated to get a better picture of what these men had and how they obtained it.”
The alleged burglars, Ronald Meeks Doyle, of Liverpool, New York, and Cardell ‘Boo’ Porter, were arraigned on several counts, including criminal trespass, theft of property, vandalism, and drug possession. Charges are expected to be upgraded once the extent of the stolen property is known.
The cabin, owned by Paul and Carol Monahan, became the target of a search warrant after Mister Monahan noticed services at the cabin being used without the couple’s presence. While the Monahans didn’t wish to speak to the Gazette, Emming said that internet pings and a rise in the electric bill tipped the Monahans that something wasn’t right. Deputies were sent out to check on the property when they determined it was occupied, and additional backup was sent, leading to the arrests. According to Emming, both men resisted arrest “to a significant extent”, and that will also be added to an updated indictment. When asked if the men might be tied to the disappearance of two missing girls from Orransburg and Berwick, Emming would say only that, “You can bet we’re looking into that, first and foremost. Returning stolen property to its rightful owners is great, but if these two were involved with either missing persons case, that’s our priority.”
