Sheriff Says Other Arrests Possible
Thursday evening, Sheriff Walt Emming announced that an arrest had been made in a recent spate of vandalism at Blessed Sacrament and Grace Methodist Church. While Emming didn’t provide many details, the Gazette obtained the arrest information and mug shot.
Victor Sabban, 46, was taken into custody at 2:32 am Thursday morning and booked into the Far Hollow jail. Sabban, who has no known address and appears disheveled in his mug shot, cooperated with officers and put up no resistance. He was located after investigators matched his fingerprints to a crime scene, although Emming would not specify which one.
“Sadly, this wasn’t just a case of kids knocking over tombstones or drinking and leaving their broken bottles behind,” Emming said in a statement shared with WTEN Channel 8 and WLIR radio. “We’ve been in constant contact with our religious leaders, seeking to put a stop to this string of incidents.”
Emming did not answer questions concerning reports of grave robbing that have surfaced in recent weeks, saying only that, “the investigation is ongoing.”
Sabban, who some locals have described as homeless, hadn’t been appointed a public defender as of press time.
